A: Note that NOT ALL manuals are provided in the PDF files. The Library lists ALL the manuals we can produce. Also, the Library lists all language versions of the manuals we can prepare. The other manuals/languages not shown here are NOT available. For details, click here.
A: If you are not familiar with how to use the Manual Library, we explain the procedure to get the manuals, taking the PSR-740 manual here for example.
The PSR-740 manual is available for you to use in our Manual Library (the URL is shown below), the category of "Electronic Keyboards (PortaTone/PortaSound)" in the product group of "Electronic Musical Instruments."
To use the Manual Library:
1. At the "Product Group" section of the Library (as indicated above), select the product group you want to browse, in this case, "Electronic Musical Instruments." Next page, the index page, appears. You can select the category and/or the model here.
* The electronic manual files listed on the Manual Library are created in the Adobe's PDF (Portable Document Format). Therefore, you need to install the freely downloadable Adobe Acrobat Reader, the latest version, and its accompanied Japanese Font Pack (even for the English manuals), in your PC in advance. Please read all notes on this web page.
2. Click the down-arrow button of the [Category] pull-down menu to select the Category you want to browse, in this case, "Electronic Keyboards (PortaTone/PortaSound)," and click [GO] button. The table titled as "Electronic Keyboards" appears. It lists all the currently available manuals of Electronic Keyboards.
* All the Electronic Musical Instruments are categorized into the following six groups: Electronic Organs, Clavinovas, Electronic Keyboards, Synthesizers, Computer Peripheral Devices and Silent Session Drums (DTX).
3. Click the down-arrow button of the scroll bar to find your desired manual, PSR-740 Owner's Manual, in this case.
* You can directly find the PSR-740 by entering the model name, PSR-740, in the "MODEL Search" field below the [Category] pull-down menu and clicking [GO] button.
4. Click on the "Hard Disk" icon at the far right side of the targeted row. Another window will be displayed for you to directly view the manual (the Acrobat Reader works as the plug-in software of the browser) or the downloading will start immediately (You can open the downloaded file using the Acrobat Reader).
* Whether you directly view the manual on the web or you download it onto your PC's hard disk depends on your browser setting.
To use the Acrobat Reader, refer to the Acrobat Reader's manual.
A: Is your internet browser assigned enough memory(Macintosh)?
A: Each manual is created in the Adobe's PDF (Portable Document Format) using Adobe Acrobat. To read the PDF files you need to install BOTH the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader and its accompanied Japanese Font Pack (even if you don't use Japanese OS) in your computer in advance.

A: You cannot open most of the PDF files in Yamaha Manual Library using Acrobat Reader 3.0 or 2.1 since some font problems exist in those versions. We recommend you to use the latest Acrobat Reader and its accompanied Japanese Font Pack (even if you don't use Japanese OS) to read the PDF manuals in our Library. You can freely download the latest Acrobat Reader at the Adobe web site.

setting (designating the application to be always used to open a certain type of files) on your PC may have been changed. In this case please use the Open command from the [File] menu to open the downloaded file.
A: The downloaded file may be broken or the downloading may have been incomplete because of a certain transmission error. >>> Please try again.

- Acoustic Drums.
- Electric Guitars and Guitar Amplifiers.
- Disklavier and Grantouch.
A: The current Manual Library is configured with three large product groups: Electronic Musical Instruments, Professional Audio Products, and Audio & Video Products. Each product group is maintained by different divisions. In addition, each product group is divided into sub-product categories.
- Electronic Musical Instruments: Electronic Organs, Clavinovas (Digital Pianos), Electronic Keyboards (PortaTones/PortaSounds), XG Tone Generators, Synthesizers/Their Related Products, Silent Session Drums (DTXs).
The Electric Guitars and Guitar Amplifiers are produced by the different group. Likewise, the manuals of the products not listed above are produced by the different divisions, and therefore, you cannot find those manuals in the Manual Library. Although both Yamaha Synthesizers and Yamaha Electric Guitars carry the same logo type, "YAMAHA," Yamaha is divided into various different divisions in order to specialize in each specific category. Accordingly, the manuals other than those of Electronic Musical Instruments, Professional Audio Products and Audio & Video Products cannot be found in our Manual Library.
- Professional Audio Products: Mixers, Power Amplifiers, Speakers, Recorders (MTRs), Signal Processors (DSPs) and so on.
- Audio & Video Products: Speaker Systems, AV Amplifiers, CD Players, DVD Players, MD Recorders and so on.
* The available manuals are now English versions only.

A: We have a plan to create the PDF (Portable Document Format) manual files covering whole products including those in the past.
However, there are various types of technical problems, like compatibility between DTP (Desk Top Publishing) applications, found among the products in the past, when trying to convert those DTP files to the PDF files. Also, the jobs to create PDF files have been done in parallel with the manual development for the new products. Accordingly, it is difficult for us to anticipate the time until when we can complete the whole of the manuals.
Please allow us to explain the detailed matters related to making PDF files below.
There were two major technical leaps in the history of document production:
1.) Development and diffusion of Desk Top Publishing on PC in the early 1990s has driven away the traditional methods: making camera-ready artworks by hand. 2.) Development of PDF files (Acrobat) by Adobe in the year of 1996 has succeeded in allowing documents to be compatible among different OSs. Those two leaps, or "watersheds" have dramatically changed the manners of document production. As a result, all manuals we've produced can be divided into the following three groups by the two "watersheds":
1. Before DTP: - ca.1990 (without electronic DTP data)
2. DTP, but before PDF: ca.1991 - 1996 (with DTP data)
3. DTP and PDF: 1997 - (with DTP data and PDF data)
1. Before DTP: - ca.1990
We will be at grips with creating PDF manuals for the products in the past, which have no electronic data. We've already made some files as trials as you may find them in the Manual Library. The PDF process of this group is rather laborious and tedious one: first, scanning through each page of a manual, second, converting all pages into graphic data, third, combining all pages into a DTP data, and lastly, converting it into PDF data. The PDF data configured with whole graphic data naturally becomes too heavy for the customers to open and read. This fact indicates those thicker manuals, or heavy PDF files are not practical and that we cannot complete all manuals until a new technical solution for this is invented.
* The PDF manuals created by this method tend to be inferior in quality compared with the ones with the methods mentioned below.
2. DTP, but before PDF: ca.1991 - 1996 (with DTP data)
We are now engaged in producing PDF files for the manuals that were made as DTP data, going back to 1991 or so. However, there are a lot of technical problems such as incompatibility between the current DTP applications and older ones, and defects in the DTP data, usually found in the DTP data on the early stage, which hinder us from proceeding. This indicates that some of the DTP data cannot be converted into the PDF files.
3. DTP and PDF: 1997 -
We've decided and continued to create the PDF files every time we produce manuals for the new products since 1997 models.
By summarizing the above topics 1. and 2. you can find the reason why your desired manual has not been included in the Manual Library even if the older models have been listed there. We don't forget your manual at all. Please be patient and give us some more time.
